OUR COMPANY
Tucows Inc. (AMEX:TCX, TSX:TC) provides Internet services and download libraries through a global distribution network
of 6,000 service providers. This distribution network primarily consists of web hosting companies, ISPs (Internet
Service Providers) and other Internet related service companies. These companies use Tucows' provisioned services
to offer solutions to their customers: enterprises, small and medium businesses and consumers. Tucows is an accredited
registrar with ICANN (the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) and earns most of its revenue from
domain name registration services plus hosted email, spam and virus protection, Blogware, website building tools,
the Platypus Billing System and digital certificates.
Our company is in the business of managing data and simplifying complex business processes for this large and expanding network of service providers, who, in turn, provide e-business products and services to their customers -- an estimated 40-million end-users worldwide. These end-users, primarily small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and individuals, represent one of the fastest growing segments of the Internet economy.
Tucows Inc. is publicly traded on the American Stock Exchange (AMEX:TCX) and Toronto Stock Exchange (TSX:TC).
Research shows that there is significant market potential for selling internet services to SMEs. Of the 5.9 million SMEs in the United States alone, independent analysts at the Yankee Group estimate that 70 per cent or 4.9 million of these businesses do not yet have a website. As Internet usage continues to grow in the U.S. and around the world, the demand for internet services will expand right along with it, driven by the need for businesses, organizations and individuals to have a local presence on the web. Our Platform
OpenSRS is the foundation of Tucows' wholesale distribution services. The OpenSRS platform is the technical infrastructure that allows our network of service providers to offer, brand and manage the delivery of domain names, digital certificates, web publishing, email and other services to their customers. By using our OpenSRS platform, these service providers are able to avoid the costs and complexities of building their own in-house systems and are free to focus on building their businesses.
Our Services
Wholesale Service Suite
Through Tucows' OpenSRS platform, our network of service providers offer their customers a suite of Internet services, including:
- Domain Name Services: Accredited by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) in April 1999, Tucows is the largest wholesale domain name registrar in the world, offering domain name services for generic top-level domains (gTLDs) including .com, .net and .org, .info, .biz and .name; and country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) such as .us, .de, .cn, .ca and .uk.
- Digital Certificates: Our partnership with GeoTrust® provides our service providers with a full suite of affordable Internet security solutions designed specifically to meet the needs of their customers -- small and medium-sized businesses doing business online.
- Email Services: Tucows offers both email and email defense services. Tucows' Email is an outsourced, brandable solution that supports multiple access methods (POP, WebMail and IMAP) with optional virus protection and email forwarding. Tucows Email Defense Service provides anti-spam, anti-virus, and mailserver attack prevention. Service providers can use Email Defense with Tucows' Email or any other email solution. All services include comprehensive management and administration tools.
- OpenHRS: Tucows' Open Hosted Registrar Service (OpenHRS), is a wholesale registration solution for ICANN-accredited registrars. Using the OpenSRS platform allows registrars to process and manage domain registrations, without having to build their own back-office registration infrastructures. The service incorporates connectivity to registries and ongoing support for top-level domains (TLDs) including .com, .net, .org, .info, .biz, .name and .us.
- Managed DNS: Tucows' Managed DNS service removes the complexity and cost from operating a reliable, fully featured managed DNS service without sacrificing control.
- Web Publishing Tools: Tucows has two web publishing services which easily meet the demands of all types of customers. Blogware is a complete solution - combining a robust application with bandwidth and storage. Tucows Website Builder allows web hosting providers to offer their customers a tool for creating websites, which are hosted on the service providers' systems. With both services any user can create professional web publications, quickly and easily.
Back Office Solutions for Service Providers
- Back Office Solutions: Tucows offers a suite of tools designed to enable service providers to rapidly adopt new value added services and maximize their back office efficiency and effectiveness. The Platypus Billing SystemTM is a leading recurring billing and subscriber management solution. Wombat Help Desk works with Platypus to improve helpdesk and customer relationship management functions.
Our Software Libraries:
The original software download site, Tucows.com, earned its name early on for being the first to provide software on a "freeware" or "shareware" basis. We currently host more than 40,000 software titles through our international network of more than 1,000 partner sites. These sites provide users with fast, local downloads.
Author Resource Center (ARC): ARC provides independent software and shareware developers worldwide with the tools to both manage and promote their software that is available on our website. ARC gives authors at all levels the opportunity to promote their software cost effectively.

- Channel loyalty: Because Tucows was once an ISP itself, our company prides itself on understanding the needs -- and championing the rights -- of our channel partners. We do not compete with them: we work behind the scenes, allowing them to build their brands and position themselves as sole providers to their customers. Eighty-four percent of the companies who began doing business with us in 2000, still do business with us today.
